How to Get to Know the University of Southern California without Leaving Your Couch
One of the most challenging parts of the admission process for many students is determining which college or university they want to apply to during their senior year. With over 5,300 amazing institutions across the United States, it is impossible to visit every single one to get a sense of what it has to offer to a prospective student. To help make this process a bit easier for potential applicants, we have put together a list of different resources that students can use to begin to get to know our campus without leaving the comfort of their couch. We hope you enjoy!
Department Websites and Social Media Channels
USC has 16 schools on campus that offer undergraduate degrees and each has a great website where you can learn about major and minor offerings, student life, research and internship opportunities, and career services. You can find links to each here. On their websites, many departments also maintain their own social media channels where you can hear from current students, professors and staff as to the exciting things happening here at USC!
Department Student Ambassadors
To help you learn more about USC directly from a current USC student, consider reaching out to one of the student ambassadors that represent some of our academic departments, including the Viterbi School of Engineering, the Price School of Public Policy, the Marshall School of Business, the Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, and the Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism. On these sites, you will find a combination of student profiles, blogs, podcasts, videos, FAQs, and contact information you can use to find the answers to any questions you have about programs, student life, or the admission process.
Virtual Housing Tours
If you want to learn more about housing opportunities at USC, the USC Housing website provides information on housing options, special interest communities, meal plans, and application procedures. You can even take a virtual tour of our housing communities! This interactive map gives you a birds-eye view of the campus and allows you to see where each of the housing communities is located.
Daily Trojan & Trojans 360
The Daily Trojan is the award-winning campus newspaper that chronicles various things that are happening across the USC community. It also provides insight into the different viewpoints of students, important issues on the minds of Trojans, and what the USC environment is like. In addition, USC has a talented group of current students who maintain the Trojans 360 blog and write first-person articles on a range of topics including study abroad, life on campus and around Los Angeles, health and wellness, and career advice. There is even an “Ask Us Anything” section where you can send them any questions you have about the USC experience.
Videos from Across Campus
It may not be the same as looking up at the Tommy Trojan statue in Hahn Plaza, but there are plenty of ways to feel like you are standing in the middle of our campus. Check out the USC Village and the campus as a whole from the vantage point of a drone or see things safely from the ground view. This video also provides some historical information about USC and how far it has come in its nearly 140-year history.
Sports and School Spirit
If USC is known for anything, our strong sense of community and school spirit are near the top of the list! USC’s 21 Division I sports teams have won a combined 104 NCAA National Championships. Consider checking out one of these teams if they are playing on television or in your area – you will probably get a glimpse of our passionate fan base and hear the Trojan fight song!
USC Admission Social Media Channels
Here is a (shameless) plug for our own social media channels. The USC Admission Office loves to connect with students through multiple channels, including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, YouTube, and this Admission Blog.
We hope this list has provided you with an introduction to USC and given you some insight into what it feels like to be here on our campus. We would love to welcome you to campus in person sometime in the future! Check out the USC Undergraduate Admission website to learn about all of the ways to visit USC.
