Applying to USC began as a novel concept for me. Growing up in suburban Massachusetts it was highly likely that I would attend school in Boston. However, something deep inside me wanted to do something unique. I wanted to do something amazing, memorable, special and above all become part of something bigger than myself. I think that’s why I chose USC in my heart long before I did in my head.

Congratulations, transfer applicants! You have all submitted your USC applications at this point and are likely a few weeks into your spring semester. After putting so much effort into getting your application materials together, your wheels may still be spinning a bit. Thankfully, you can pull back a little now, but here are some next steps for you to keep in mind as you settle into the spring:

Why would two college educated professionals want to put themselves through the SAT Exam? That is a good question considering our 17 year old selves vowed never to take that exam ever again. The answer is simple: we want to be the best admission officers in America. To better understand our prospective freshmen, we took things to the next level and decided to spend a day (or half a day technically) in your shoes!

As our application deadline for Transfer applicants just passed, we wanted to hear from a Transfer student here at USC. This month we’re meeting Xavier Garcia a junior from Sacramento, California. He is a pre-med student majoring in Health and Human Sciences with a minor in Public Health. His passion is studying the health disparity in low income communities by focusing on social determinants of health. He is also active in Chicanos/Latinos for Health Education, volunteers with Schools on Wheels to mentor and tutor homeless children in Los Angeles, as well as volunteers with Kicks with Kids. Xavier also speaks about the Norman Topping scholarship, a scholarship that I hold dear to my heart through my own involvement as an undergraduate student. The Norman Topping Student Aid Fund is a scholarship (and an incredible resource on campus) available for first-year, transfer, and graduate applicants to apply. In fact, the Freshman application is coming up on February 21, 2017 and the Transfer applicant is due May 21, 2017 but for more information go to usc.edu/ntsaf.
