One of my favorite parts of USC is our band, also known as “The Greatest Marching Band in the History of the Universe.” I remember the first time I heard the band play when I was admitted to USC. I was so excited and I get that same feeling of excitement to this day upon hearing the sounds of the horns. The band is part of what brings the Trojan Family together as we universally recognize the Fight Song and begin to throw up our V for Victory signs. Now, it’s hard to portray the sound of the band in a blog, but we hope you’ll appreciate hearing a little more about the experience of one of our band members. Hear what Rylee has to say about his experience in the USC Marching Band.

After visiting 70 high schools around the world and taking nearly 15 flights over the past two months, you probably think that I would want nothing more than to spend hours online searching for Hannukah sweaters for my dog, Goldie, binge watching Westworld on HBO, and eating some vegan ice cream. I also need to get going on Gilmore Girls, but, yes this is a very typical post recruitment rehabilitation for me. With that said, the admission cycle carries on, and so does my life in L.A. Following are some of the things that keep me busy after the recruitment season has concluded.

My friends and family know not to call me in December. This is the time of year that I ignore their texts so I can stay immersed in your essay and when I take the later train home so I can finish tracking down your transcript. The weirdness of the admission cycle is that high schools and colleges are always out of sync–your breaks are our busy months and vice versa. When I’m working away to make my deadlines, you’ve already met yours! My crazy December means that you now have to do one of the hardest things in the world…wait.

This month for student highlight we are hearing from a student athlete, Gussie Johns. Gussie is from Washington, DC. She is a junior at USC majoring in Business with a focus in Entrepreneurial Business and considering a minor in Sports Media. She spends a lot of her time with her involvement in the USC Women’s Lacrosse Team but loves spending her free time going to the beach and spending time with her teammates. We hope that you enjoy hearing more about Gussie’s experience as a student athlete at USC.
