With our December 1 deadline approaching, it is almost that time of year when our office is sent thousands and thousands of applications, transcripts, test scores and letters of recommendation. Honestly, it is amazing that everything gets placed into each and every student’s application file given the high volume of content we receive. It is important to know that it takes a significant amount of time for all application materials to be organized and downloaded into a student’s application file- especially test scores.

During my last visit to the Metro DC area I worked at one of our Discover USC programs. We host these programs for prospective students throughout the world so that students and families gain helpful information about USC and our application process. Although we would love for everyone to visit USC, we realize it’s just not feasible, so we try our best to bring a bit of USC to you!

Every late August/early September, there are 5 or so emails in my inbox every morning with the subject “Introduction to USC.” These emails usually have the same general format. “Hello Jessica- just wanted to let you know that I go to ABC High School, I play baseball and I can’t wait to apply to USC. I’ve always wanted to be a student in the Marshall School of Business.”

So what exactly goes on during a college visit? You know that admission reps will be visiting your high school, but you have no clue what to expect. Not only do college visits allow us to meet with students and learn more about your high school, but students also get the opportunity to learn more about their prospective colleges. Hello world! As a new member of the blog team, I am so excited to share with you many of my day-to-day experiences as an Assistant Director of Admission at USC. When I talk to my friends and family about my job, they often ask questions like “what do you do on a daily basis?” or “do you have to work in the summer?” I’m hoping that through my monthly additions to this blog, you’ll get a better idea of what we do every day as admission counselors.
