GUEST BLOG: Give us more! The Iovine and Young Academy’s Application Process

Hi Everyone! This month’s guest blog is from the USC Iovine and Young Academy. You can get tips from current students and hear about their application process. Enjoy!

While USC’s Common Application, essay prompts, grades, test scores and letters of recommendation provide a great deal of information, at the USC Iovine and Young Academy, we ask prospective students for a little more. The Academy is looking for expression of creativity and multi-disciplinary thinking.

Academy applicants are asked to submit a creative portfolio, which can include fine art and design, film, creative writing, musical compositions, creative technologies, inventions and more.

In addition, we also ask for a 1-minute pitch video. The original video must illustrate an original idea for an innovative product, service or system that solves a problem, addresses a need or provides an opportunity. The selected focus may be local or global, and the proposed idea need not have an existing market value or predictable consumer base.

Current Academy students shared information and tips from the 1-minute pitch videos that they submitted.
