What to Avoid When You’re Applying (or how to conquer your senior fall)

Senior year is tough! You’re in your hardest classes to date, you’re taking on more and more responsibilities, you’re hitting a milestone almost every week…and then we ask you to apply to college. 12th grade may never be easy, but you can certainly make it less hard. Though each student’s college process is unique, there are a handful of behaviors/mind sets that I have seen cause unnecessary stress time and time again. Some call them the Four Horseman of the Common Appocalypse (and by some I mean me), but they are all avoidable if you know how to recognize the signs!

Many transfer students are beginning to hear from us with decisions. If you haven’t already, don’t panic. We will contact everyone by June 1st with either a request for spring grades or a decision. Which basically means more waiting…sorry. For those of you have already been admitted, or are wondering what the next steps will be if you are admitted, this blog’s for you.

Mythbuster: I’ve been admitted to spring, so I’m waitlisted

Every year, USC admits students to the spring semester, expecting to enroll about 300-500 of those students. Many people assume spring admission is our waitlist. And while we may be able to move some of the students to the fall semester, spring admission is not a waitlist. Spring admission is an admission offer to USC.

Mythbuster: I didn’t get a scholarship, so USC is not going to be financially feasible

Over 30,000 students applied to USC for our merit based scholarship consideration. The process is highly competitive, and only 1,200 students will be considered for the scholarships. Students often think that they can’t afford USC without a scholarship, but that may not be true! I sat down with Danny Finlay, Assistant Director of Outreach for Financial Aid, to set the record straight and get more information on how USC can be affordable.
